15 Bible Verses about Healing

Illness, pain and brokenness are things we all face. Whether it is physical symptoms, mental struggles or a broken heart - sometimes it feels like healing is impossible. But the Bible shows that God is a God of restoration. He sees your pain, He hears your prayers, and He promises to be near.

Here are 10 Bible verses about healing, with short reflections. 🙏🏽

Exodus 15:26

"And He said, 'If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and listen to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.'"

From the very beginning, God makes it clear that He is the one who gives healing. He knows your body, soul and spirit better than anyone else. In this verse, God reveals Himself as Jehovah Rapha, which means, ‘The Lord who heals’. This shows that healing is not just something God does, but it is who He is. His nature is to restore, heal and bring wholeness.

Isaiah 53:5

"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."

Jesus' sacrifice on the cross goes beyond forgiveness of sins, He also bore our pain and our brokenness. This means we don't have to bear our struggles alone. Jesus understands our suffering and wants to carry, comfort and restore us.

2 Corinthians 12:9

"But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.'"

Sometimes God does not heal directly, but gives us the strength to go through difficult periods. Paul struggled with a ‘thorn in the flesh’, something that hurt and weakened him, but God reminded him that His grace was enough. This means that when we feel weak, God's strength actually becomes apparent. You are never alone in your struggles - God is your source of strength.

Psalm 147:3

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

Healing is not just physical. Maybe you are struggling with emotional pain: loss, rejection, disappointment or a broken heart. God sees your tears and knows exactly what you are going through. Sometimes inner wounds feel just as painful as physical ones, and it may seem like there is no recovery. But God is a loving Physician, bringing not just superficial comfort but real deep restoration. He wants to heal your heart, put your broken pieces back together and give you new hope and joy.

Matthew 20:34

"Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him."

Jesus healed not only because He had the power, but also because He was deeply moved by people. He saw their pain, their loneliness and their struggles. This shows that God is not indifferent to our suffering. When we struggle with illness or pain, may we know that God sympathises with us and longs to restore us.

Mark 5:34

"He said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.'"

This verse comes from the moving story of a woman who had been suffering from heavy bleeding for 12 years. She had tried everything, visited all the doctors, but nothing helped. Yet she did not give up. When she heard about Jesus, she knew, ‘If I can only touch His clothes, I will already be saved’ (Mark 5:28). This story shows that Jesus is all about our heartm our faith in Him. God asks us to trust in His power and love. Even if you do not yet see healing, you may continue to believe that He is working.

James 5:14

"Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord."

You don't have to go through illness or pain alone. God has given us a community to pray together and support each other. Prayer is powerful, and when people pray together, it can set great things in motion. So don't be afraid to share it with others and carry each other through difficult times.

1 Peter 5:10

"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast."

Peter acknowledges that life can be difficult and suffering is a reality. But he calls it ‘a short time’, meaning it is temporary compared to eternity with God. Your pain will not last forever. God's promise is that He will eventually restore everything, in His way and in His perfect timing. Sometimes He heals here on earth, and sometimes He brings full restoration in eternity with Him. Either way, He will not leave you broken.

God uses everything for good

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28

Not every illness or pain disappears immediately, but God can use any situation to bring forth something good. Sometimes a difficult period leads us closer to Him, teaches us to trust in Him or enables us to encourage others and bring them closer to God. Whatever the situation, we can trust that God will ultimately use everything for good.

Let your healing be a testimony

"Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, 'He told me everything I ever did.' So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And because of his words many more became believers." - John 4:39-41

During His time on earth, Jesus healed countless people and forgave their sins. These were not only signs of God's power, but also an invitation to glorify His name. When we receive healing, be it physical, emotional or spiritual, may we testify about it too. Sharing your story can encourage others and even cause them to come to faith. Even if your healing is not yet visible, you can testify to God's goodness and His nearness in the process.
