Christmas is much more than a cozy celebration with lights, gifts, and music. It is the moment when we reflect on the greatest gift ever given: Jesus Christ. His coming to earth changed everything. In Him, God's love became visible and tangible. The Bible tells of this coming in various ways, from prophecies in the Old Testament to the miracle of His birth in the New Testament.

Perhaps you celebrate Christmas every year, but don't really know what it means. These 15 Bible verses not only tell the Christmas story, but also show that the coming of Jesus the Messiah had been long awaited!

Matthew 2:1-2
“Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, 'Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.'”
Prophecies about the coming of the Messiah

Who Jesus is and why He came
John 1:14
“So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Philippians 2:5-11
"In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
John 1:12
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
Galatians 4:4-5
“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.”
The meaning of Christmas
At Christmas, we celebrate that God became human in Jesus Christ. In a world full of brokenness and darkness, He chose to send His Son. Not as a powerful King, but as a vulnerable baby in a stable. It was through this humility that God showed His love. Jesus came to bring light into the darkness, to offer salvation and eternal life to all who believe in Him.
